Welcome to eMath! Committed to teaching mathematics in a way that allows all students to learn.

Picture 038.jpg At Edina (MN) High School (a 10-12 school in a suburb of Minneapolis), we have a proud tradition of education in general, and secondary mathematics education in particular. Still, it was clear to us that not ALL of our kids were learning math at a level necessary to succeed in the real world. This determination was based on a close look at incoming sophomores' previous math grades and standardized test scores.

Picture 035.jpg In August of 2008 the administration decided that this was not acceptable and eMath was born. eMath is an intervention course that is designed to "meet kids where they are" mathematically and take them as far as they can go. The first thing that was done was to throw out the traditional textbook approach to learning (which is based on the flawed assumption that all kids in a class are in relatively the "same place at the same time" mathematically) and replace it with a prescriptive, differentiable, standards driven approach. One goal, of course, was to place our students on track for graduation in reference to the MCA and GRAD tests, Minnesota's exit exams.

Picture 034.jpg The early results are highly encouraging and there has been significant interest in this intervention model so far. This site is a (free) subscription-based site designed to support that interest and to create a resource for all those who would realize that it is not ok for ANY CHILD to fall behind in their mathematics. Over time expect that all subscribers will find opportunity to contribute their suggestions to this process as they take from those posted here.
